January - March 2005
January 1 Spain - appears on the cover of  the January 2005 edition of Ópera Actual. The cover story, entitled 'José Carreras: El dorado sonido del corazón' is available here.
January 12 Barcelona, Spain -  Carreras and Dr. Ciril Rozman lead a press conference at the University of Barcelona Faculty of Medicine launching a new campaign to increase bone marrow donorship in Spain . Later in the day, journalists accompanied Carreras as he visited patients in the Transplant Unit at Barcelona's Hospital Clínico (photo right).

January 16 Barcelona, Spain -  along with thousands of mourners, including his fellow tenors, Plácido Domingo and Jaume Aragall, pays his final respects to the great Spanish soprano, Victoria de los Angeles who died on January 15th. In the photo (right), Carreras is shown entering the Palau de la Generalitat where her body lay in state. He said to the journalists present: "We singers who have come after her have learned from her, from her musicality and the great dignity with which she sang. She would sing with same delivery and equally well whether it was in New York or Granollers, because she wanted to reach out to everyone."

January 29 Almería, Spain - recital in the Auditorio de Roquetas de Mar with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj (photo right). "Carreras barroco, napolitano, latino y siempre exquisito"  wrote the critic in La Voz de Almería.

February 4 Barcelona, Spain - with Plácido Domingo and their representative, Martín Pérez, participates via video conferencing (photo right) in a press conference in Monterrey, Mexico announcing June 4, 2005 as the date for the Three Tenors Concert in the city.

February 9 Barcelona, Spain - - private recital with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj in the Casa Llotja de Mar. The recital in aid of the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation was sponsored by UBS.

February 17 Barcelona, Spain - celebrates the opening of  Ottimo, a restaurant owned by his nephew, David Giménez. Carreras prepared his own creation for the occasion, 'Rigatoni Josep Carreras' (pasta with fresh artichokes, broth, and parmesan cheese). In the photo are (left to right) David Giménez, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, and Carreras.

February 23 Barcelona, Spain - attends the presentation of Núria Feliu's new cd in the Hall of Mirrors at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The cd, Núria Feliu 40 anys, includes a duet with Carreras - 'Cançó de Sants'. At the end of the evening Carreras presented the popular Catalan singer (photo right) with a giant chocolate Easter egg containing a plaque commemorating her 40 years on the stage.

March 5 Reykjavik, Iceland - concert in the Háskólabíó theatre with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and the Nuovo Quartetto Italiano. The Scandinavian tour continued with concerts in Oslo, Norway on March 8 and Aalborg, Denmark on March 10.

March 14 Budapest, Hungary - taking a brief break from his Scandinavian tour, Carreras flew into Budapest to help test the acoustics of the new National Concert Hall, the Muveszetek Palotaja. In the photo (right) José Carreras with Demján Sándor, one of the benefactors of the new hall.

March 15 Tampere, Finland - back to Scandinavia to give a 'front page' concert at the Tampere Hall with Lorenzo Bavaj and the Nuovo Quartetto Italiano.

March 19 Bergen Norway - the Scandinavian tour concludes with a sold-out concert in the Grieghallen.

March 31 Dubai - Gala concert at the Nad al Sheba Club.  Performing with Carreras were the soprano, Tina Gorina, and the Ambassade orchestra conducted by David Giménez. The concert was held by local companies in aid of tsunami victims and the Dubai Diabetes Summit.
