April - June 2006
April 1 Kempten, Germany - the Belle Epoque tour continues with a concert in the BigBox Allgäu accompanied by pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and the Nuovo Quartetto Italiano. The following day in Berlin Carreras was the keynote speaker at the launch of ARD's cancer awareness week. A further Belle Epoque concert took place on April 4 at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt.

April 6 Berlin, Germany - Belle Epoque concert in the Berlin Philharmonie.

April 7 Berlin, Germany - press conference and visit with leukemia patients and staff at the Klinik für Hämatologie und Onkologie am Campus Benjamin Franklin der Charite. Then off to Cologne for a concert on April 9 in the Kölner Philharmonie, the last in the Belle Epoque tour.

April 14 Tripoli, Libya - appears in a concert with Lionel Ritchie and soprano Ofelia Sala to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the  bombing of Tripoli by the US Air Force in retaliation for Libya's terrorist attack in Berlin in April of 1986. The concert organizers said they wanted the Western singers' star power to "underline the sincerity of Libya's three-year-old rapprochement with the outside world, bury past enmities and promote a message of goodwill."

April 27 Castelló, Spain - recital with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj for which they received a standing ovation from the audience in the sold-out Auditori de Castelló. In the photo (right), Carreras and Bavaj at the start of the recital.

May 2 Manresa, Spain - concert with Lorenzo Bavaj in the Basilica Santa Maria de la Seu to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Manresa Chamber of Commerce. Speaking to journalists at the concert, Carreras officially confirmed his recent marriage to Jutta Jäger. In the photo (right), José Carreras and his wife leaving the Basilica after the concert.

May 5 Farum, Denmark - concert in the Farum Arena with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and the Nuovo Quartetto Italiano.

May 31 Barcelona, Spain - attends a dinner in his honour given by the Barcelona Veteran Players. Accompanied by his son Albert, his brother Albert, and his brother's two grandsons, Carreras was praised for his distinguished support for Barcelona and Catalonia throughout the world and was presented with his own ABV player's shirt by Ramon Alfonseda, President of the Agrupació Barça Veterans (photo right).

June 14 Barcelona, Spain - inaugurates a new Chopard boutique on the Paseo de Gràcia with model Eva Herzigova (photo right). Carreras described Ms. Herzigova, who helped him cut the ribbon at the boutique's opening, as someone whose company is "un placer para cualquier persona masculina".  Later that evening, he gave a private concert, sponsored by Chopard, at the Palau de la Música in aid of the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation.

June 21 Madrid, Spain - private concert at the Westin Palace Hotel in aid of Prosalus, a Spanish charity devoted to promoting health care in Africa and Latin America.  On June 16, Carreras had been in Russia for another private concert - the 50th birthday party of Norwegian millionaire Christen Sveaas in St. Petersburg's Katharina Palace.

June 24 Acqui Terme, Italy - open air concert in the Teatro Garibaldi with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj and mezzo-soprano Adele Cossi. The concert was organized by the Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa, a noted winery in the area, to celebrate their 150th Anniversary.  Appropriately enough, at the end of the concert Carreras received a magnum of their finest wine instead of the customary bouquet.
