July 28 Benalmadena, Spain. Concert to inaugurate the new municipal auditorium. The photo (right) shows the harbour by night. Things were a bit darker on the night of the 28th. A fire in an electricity transformer delayed the start of the recital by half an hour and caused several blackouts in the city. However, as the Diaro Sur said "the tense wait was forgotten the moment Carreras appeared on the stage to give a superb recital." |

August 11 Salzburg, Austria. Concert in the Großen Festspielhaus as part of the Salzburg Festival. Carreras's performance after an 11 year absence from the festival was described in the Wiener Zeitung as "a triumphant return". |

September 12 Albacete Spain. Recital with pianist Lorenzo Bavaj in the Teatro Circo. The following day, the Fundación Internacional Josep Carreras and the government of Castilla-La Mancha signed an agreement to promote bone marrow donation in the region. Carreras also attended a ceremony in nearby San Juan to inaugurate the first plaza in Spain to be named after him "in recognition of his artistic and humanitarian work." |

September 22 Navarra, Spain. Carreras presents the prizes at the final of the Julián Gayarre voice competition of which he is the Honorary President. The photo (right) shows Carreras with the two winners, baritone Joshua Hopkins and soprano Tetyana Melnychenko. Carreras also presented a special prize of 6000 Euros, which he himself had donated, to the Romanian soprano Teodora Gheorghiu. |
