July 3 Coimbra, Portugal. Awarded Dr Honoris Causa of the University of Coimbra for the work of the Fundación Internacional José Carreras para la Lucha contra la Leucemia That evening, Carreras gave a concert in the Pátio das Escolas of the University, accompanied by the Orquestra do Norte, the Coro dos Antigos Orfeonistas, soprano Dora Rodrigues and barítone Luís Rodrigues.

July 4 Cheltenham, England. Officially opened the LINC Outpatient Suite at Cheltenham General Hospital. The £1 million extension is used by haematology and oncology patients, many of whom are receiving intensive chemotherapy.

July 5 Cheltenham Festival, England. Concert with Bryn Terfel accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. The concert was in aid of the Leukemia and Intensive Care Fund (LINC) and the José Carreras' International Leukemia Foundation.
July 12 Benidorm, Spain - open air 'Junts' concert with Lluís Llach in the Parque L'Aigüera

August 7 Bath, England - 3 Tenors Concert to celebrate the opening of the Bath Spa. 12,000 people attended the free performance in the historic Bath Crescent while another 20,000 viewed the concert on large screens in nearby parks. The photo (right) shows the 'three' in Bath on the day before the concert.
August 24 Faenol Festival,Wales - concert with Bryn Terfel, Jose Carreras, Hayley Westenra, with the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, David Gimenez conducting.

September 6 Guernsey, Channel Islands - Private charity concert with Diva Opera at the Whittaker Hall in aid of the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation.

September 8 Palma de Mallorca - 'Junts' concert with Lluís Llach in the Auditorium de Palma de Mallorca. The singers were accompanied by the Coral Universitat de les Illes Balears and the Orquestra Simfònica Europea Mediterrània, conducted by Enrique Ricci. Earlier in the day, Carreras gave a press conference on the work of his Foundation and the need for more bone marrow donations in the region.

September 9 Palma de Mallorca -  A repeat performance of the 'Junts' concert with Lluís Llach in the Auditorium de Palma de Mallorca. This performance was attended by Queen Sofia of Spain, shown greeting Carreras in the photo (right).

September  Along with actors Udo Kier and Hardy Krueger Jr., models for the winter collection of the Hugo Boss luxury fashion label, Baldessarini. Advertisements are set to appear in Stern, Focus, Lufthansa, Manager, Spiegel and Gala magazines in the coming weeks.

September 5 Barcelona - publication of Algún día, Irina by Rosa María Carbonell with a Forward by José Carreras. The book, by the noted Catalan journalist, is a diary of her nine year old daughter's fight against leukaemia. ISBN: 8425337410

September 28 Columbus, Ohio, Schottenstein Center - Three Tenors concert which raised $475,000 for the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. From The Columbus Dispatch, 29 September 2003: "Carreras - looking like a Spanish aristocrat, albeit a tad pale and thin - nevertheless sang with gusto and conviction. Most wonderful were his sotto voce utterances in Core 'ngrato and his full-voiced, emotive delivery of Lamento di Federico on the second half."
